The term "apnea" refers to a pause in breathing. Sleep apnea is a common disorder in which you experience one or more pauses in breathing while sleeping throughout the night. Adults who snore may only have a few apnea episodes per night. Those with a sleep apnea disorder will typically have 10 to 60 pauses in breathing per hour. The pauses or apnea episodes can last 10 to 20 seconds before the sleeper will resume breathing.
Adults may be completely unaware they have this condition without others in their household who observe the apnea episodes. Sleep apnea can get in the way of an active, fulfilled lifestyle when left untreated. Excessive daytime sleepiness, drowsiness and fatigue along with moodiness, headaches and a loss of memory and/or attention are common symptoms of having a sleep apnea disorder.
If the sleep apnea is obstructive in nature, the Natural Comfort Pillow can keep the head and neck positioned in a way to help the airways stay open better.
You may want to try some sort of small rolled towel under your neck (to mimic the support bolsters) if you sleep on your back to see if this helps as a trial. If you side sleep, the Natural Comfort Pillow can maintain your head and neck in a position that helps keep the airways open too.
